I salute all humans. We were wrong about what other apes actually do when they groom. Several folds follow a vertical-horizontal grid. Now, grooming is not optional. You use a combination of nail strokes to unfold the skin, sebum is released and serves as a lubricant. Grooming is done without looking and you cannot groom someone else correctly. Grooming is 100% natural, using God-given tools. Good grooming.

| Beginner's grooming guide |
First grooming experience -Slide your nail along the lines in the palm of your hand.
-Go slowly, try to open the fold. Feeling unpain -As you go, appreciate the sensory reactions coming from your skin. Fold crossings -Visually inspect the fold you're working on. Going blind -Try following a fold with your nail without looking. Unfolding -Actively work your nail at the bottom of the fold, doing the necessary moves to unfold it. Workspace tension -As you groom, try opening and closing your hand. Grooming everywhere -Your newly acquired skills can now be transposed anywhere on your body. |
Skeptic's corner I can understand skeptics, being one myself. The wrong reaction to pain Suppose you do a movement repeatedly such as moving your arm up and down. What is unpain Everyone knows this pleasure I have called “unpain”. Why the folds are invisible Most of the folding cannot be seen because it is made of epidermis over epidermis. |
An experiment for all At this time, I have only tried grooming myself and a few other humans. |
| Grooming History |
| Somewhere between fifty and a hundred million years ago, the first primate had developed flat nails instead of claws. Since then, primates spend considerable time grooming. We thought it consisted of parasite removal and the kind of duties we do in front of a mirror. This is only partly true. I have found out, by doing it myself, that the bulk of their grooming activities is aimed at unfolding their skin. Now, this task is complicated and they do the best they can. |
Grooming is one of life’s necessities for primates, like eating, drinking or sleeping. It’s just that the punishment for not doing it comes at a slower pace. As far as I know, humans are the only primate species that does not groom and this leads me to conclude that we have stopped grooming at some point in our evolution. Well, this was one of the worst decisions our race has ever taken. We probably thought it was too animal-like. We pay for it through pain and aging. |
